About the Author

I’m here as a writer and an editor, and sometimes just a voice looking for connection. A quote from one of my favorite authors Luis Alberto Urrea expresses how I prefer to live: “Sometimes the world is so dark and bloody that you have to be brave enough to broadcast innocent joy. Dare to be naive.”

Time to sit and stare is essential to me, as is nature.
Creative Writing

My first novel, Beside the Darker Shore, was published in 2011, and I’ve had numerous works in anthologies, such as Main Street Rag’s Crossing Lines, Cohesion Press’s Blurring the Line, AnnaPurna’s Clarify, Timbre’s Stories of Music, and Undertow’s Apparitions, and in magazines, including Litro USA, Not One of Us, Midnight Street, Sounds of the Night, Clean Sheets, and Wicked Hollow. I have received honorable mentions in Ellen Datlow’s Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror collections and am a Pushcart Prize nominee.

Editing Work

I’ve worked twenty-five years as an editor, focusing mostly on copy editing textbooks, such as National Geographic’s high school history and government texts, as well as law books and American Bar Association articles. Between these larger projects, I also proofread fiction titles for a mainstream publisher.

Personal

I tend to organize my life around finding time to write when I’m not spending time with my husband, daughters, friends, and family, or walking in nature. I’m fairly solitary, though I like the small connections emails and blogs allow. I get charged easily from the sensory and emotional world found in words and music and run with the muses when I can.
